"34 diag. Widescreen Tau Series PureFlat HDTV, Tau Silver finish KEY FEATURES- * PureFlat Picture Tube Delivers richly detailed images with incredible depth from corner to corner. Unlike regular curved screens, the PureFlat screen produces no reflections or distortions, so you can enjoy distraction-free TV viewing no matter where you sit in the room. * Super Invar Shadow Mask Achieves breakthrough level of picture quality on a flat screen. By applying the optimal amount of vertical tension to the shadow mask inside the panel, it overcomes the color shift problem common with conventional flat CRTs. It also raises the mask aperture by 20% compared to our previous models to deliver extremely bright pictures. COMMON FEATURES- * 10-bit 60MHz A/D Image Processing Boosts conventional grayscale from 256 to 1024 for 4 times as many shades of black and white and a much finer image that more closely resembles the original (analog) signal. The 10-bit circuitry enables continuous gradual changes from black to white, and eliminates what is commonly known as false contouring. * 8-bit P-I-P Image Processing An 8-bit A/D converter provides 256 levels of gray from black to white in the inset picture for finer image detail. * Multi-Format P-I-P Display (MFD) Allows P-I-P images from component inputs HDTV/NTSC, HDTV/EDTV and HDTV/HDTV. P-I-P images can be obtained from RF, composite video, S-Video or component video inputs. * Anti-Reflective, Anti-Static Screen Coating * Geomagnetic and Tilt Correction * Color Transient Improvement (CTI) Minimizes color smear at the edges of television images to assure clear, distinct colors. * Color Matrix Adjustment When viewing digital television programming from a DTV receiver/decoder, models with this feature automatically adjust the color parameters for 1080i, 720p and 480p transmissions. Manual adjustments are also possible for non-standard DTV formats. * Progressive Cinema Scan (3/2 Pulldown) Movies on film are converted to NTSC interlaced video (480i) for television by a process known as telecine conversion, in which the 24 frame-per-second film is converted to video at 60 fields per second. The fields are then paired to create 30-frame-per-second 480i video. Some of the frames will contain dissimilar pairs of fields derived from two different frames of the original film, which causes artifacts. Generally, when 480i video is converted to progressive scan (480p), the artifacts from the telecine process will remain. Panasonic's progressive cinema scan circuitry, by contrast, converts 480i video to 480p while restoring the original frames of the film for a more faithful movie reproduction. * 16:9 Aspect Ratio Widescreen TVs feature the same width-to-height ratio as movie theater screens, providing cinema-style entertainment at home. Moreover, they enable full-screen viewing of high-definition broadcasts and DVD videos, which are produced in 16:9 format. * HDTV/EDTV Display Capability (1080i, 480p) Some Panasonic televisions double as HDTV monitors enabling you to hookup digital component video inputs (Y, Pr, Pb) to the unit for viewing of high-definition programming broadcasts. In order to view HDTV programming, the TV must be connected to a DTV (digital TV) set-top box and switched to DTV mode. A DTV signal must be present in your area and the set-top box must be tuned to the proper channel. An external over- the-air antenna may be required. * 2-Tuner Picture-in-Picture with Split-Screen Display Lets you view two programs at once by dividing the screen in half down th middle. Each program is shown at full height, with one program on the left side and the other on the right. It's like picture-in-picture, only bigger. Audio is played from the program on the left. To listen to the audio from the program on the right, simply switch the pictures using the SWAP button. * Scalable P-I-P Image Size Enables you to select the size of the picture-in-picture window from as small as 1/16 to as large as 1/4 of the main picture in continuous linear steps. * Enhanced Progressive Scan Doubler Displays a full frame of video in 1/60th of a second by de-interlacing the incoming video signal and progressively scanning the image. With progressive scanning, you generally won't see the horizontal scan lines that are often visible in ordinary television images. This year's scan doubler provides even more image enhancement than our previous technology by improving the quality of diagonal lines in a moving picture. * Motion-Adaptive 3D-Y/C Digital Comb Filter This filter is designed to eliminate hanging dots and work on diagonal patterns to eliminate the color rainbow effect in closely spaced patterns by compensating for the motion that occurs between fields. As a result, bright colors and fast action scenes are displayed with incredible clarity. * Digital Velocity Modulated Scan (Selectable On/Off) Advanced circuitry along the neck of the CRT senses transitions from black to white in the video signal. The black and white portions of the signal are sped up and slowed down, respectively, resulting in sharp black-to-white transitions. For a more film-like picture when watching movies, you may want to selectively turn off this circuitry. * Horizontal & Vertical Edge Correction Helps sharpen the edges of objects in the picture. It works in conjunction with the dynamic sharpness control and velocity modulated scan to help produce clean, crisp television images and reduce the unwanted effects of video noise. * Artificial Intelligence Picture Control Continuously monitor signal conditions to maintain a high degree of contrast in the picture. It looks at all areas of the picture at the same time. If a particular area is too light, AI Picture Control can darken that area without affecting the black level or brightness in the overall picture. * Video Noise Reduction Reduces luminance (black & white) noise, which is commonly called 'snow'.* Stereo/SAP with dbx Noise Reduction The built-in stereo decoder can receive both TV stereo and Separate Audio Program (SAP) telecasts where available. A dbx noise reduction system helps provide clear, crisp sound with proper stereo separation. * BBE High Definition Sound Provides true linear phase correction and dynamic amplitude compensation. With BBE, speech intelligibility is improved and the dynamic range of musical passages is restored to provide outstanding natural sound. * 4-Speaker Sound System * The Director Lighted Disc Home Theater Remote The Director remote can be programmed to control many current video and audio devices, such as VCRs, cable TV boxes, DBS receivers, DVD players, stereo receivers, CD players and audiocassette tape decks. * Input Jacks: 2 sets of Component Video (Y, Pb, Pr) 4 sets of A/V (1 front) 3 of S-Video (1 front) * Output Jacks: 1 set of Fixed Audio 1 set of Variable Audio 1 set of A/V Program Out 1 S-Video Out 1 Stereo Headphone Out * Video Input Skip When using the TV/VIDEO key on the remote to scan through available video and antenna/cable inputs, you can bypass selected inputs to save time. This feature is handy when you want to toggle between two inputs, such as the TV mode and VCR input, on televisions with multiple video inputs. * Video Picture Memory Allows you to set and retain separate picture parameters (Color, Tint, Brightness, Picture and Sharpness) for each video input. For instance, you could set the VCR input for movie viewing with lower contrast, sharpness and color level; whereas your TV setting may be at full contrast with the sharpness up. * Channel Labeling with Presets An ID of 1 to 4 characters, such as 4NBC or WNET, can be assigned to up to 30 channels. This feature comes in handy when cable systems assign different channel numbers to familiar network stations. In addition to creating 10 of your own labels, you can select from 48 preset labels for the channels in your area. * Favorite Channel Scan A favorite channel memory stores up to 16 of your most frequently watched channels, allowing quick and easy scanning of preferred channels. * Channel Banner Captures information that is transmitted with each program (in the VBI) and places it on the screen in a semi-transparent banner. This information includes TV station identification and the V-chip rating for the program being transmitted. * Channel Search Scans available channels in the P-I-P inset picture. On selected models, you can choose to search a Favorite Channel memory or all available channels. * Parental Guidance Control The Channel Lock and Game Guard functions let parents control television use and prevent video games and other video sources from being displayed on the TV. You can lock out up to 4 channels, all channels plus all video inputs, or channels 3 & 4 plus all video inputs for either 12, 24 or 48 hours. With Channel Lock, a user-programmed 4-digit code must be entered to deactivate the feature. * V-Chip Program Blocking V-chip technology allows parents to use television ratings codes to block programs that they feel are inappropriate for their children to view. The V-chip can be turned on and off through the on-screen menu using a four- digit, user-programmed code. Once you choose an appropriate ratings level, the V-chip reads the ratings code transmitted with each program, compares it with the level you set and automatically denies access that exceeds your rating. * 2 Programmable On/Off Timers The programmable timer allows you to program your TV set to turn itself on and off at a selected channel and at designated times every day. You can alert yourself to the start of a desired program by having the TV come on with sufficient volume to attract your attention. Or you can fall asleep and rest assured that the TV will turn itself off at the proper time.
